Just having a clear out and found these from 1989. AT&T's acquisition of Istel marked the entry of US operators into the UK. BT did likewise with a US acquisition of Tymnet. AT&T still has a Redditch office, last time I checked. I was at Flemings and got the mandate, and wrote part of the memorandum. AT&T pipped Nynex to the post.
Dolomite Solutions provide fibre route
Dolomite Solutions has now provided fibre route details to two UK fibre Altnets, each consisting of 8 separate routes dating back to the "dot com" boom and totalling around 5,000 km. This provides the basis for bypassing the BT network for backhaul. This is particularly important, as the rise in BT prices, and the effect of the BT exchange closure programme will substantially increase the costs of BT leased lines or dark fibre over the next few years.

We've been working on getting fibre FTTP to the London Gliding Club, LU6 2JP. There is fibre on poles at the bottom of the drive from the Club, but the existing copper connection is directly buried. One solution is 4 poles up the 300 metre drive. Estimate from a BTO approved contactor - under £5,000. BT O quote to Cerberus? Wait for it! £29,000 This looks plain daft.
